LOCA Maps is a mapping and journey-planning service for the Lao People's Democratic Republic, provided by LOCA COMPANY LIMITED, 7th Floor, Vientiane Plaza Hotel, Saylom Road, Vientiane, Laos (“LOCA”, “we”, “us”).

These terms apply to the LOCA Maps mobile application and to the website at maps.loca.la (together, “the Service”). By using the Service you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the Service.

The Service is provided free of charge and does not require an account.

We may add to, change or withdraw any part of the Service.

Everything the Service shows is our best current information. It may be incomplete, out of date, or wrong. In particular:

• Routes, distances and travel times are calculated from map data. They do not account for traffic, weather, roadworks, closures, checkpoints, vehicle restrictions or the condition of the road.
• Charging stations, their operators, connector types and power ratings come from the charging networks and from our own surveys. A station may be occupied, out of service, or no longer there.
• The electric-vehicle planner works from the range you enter, reduced by a fixed margin, and assumes you charge to full at every stop. Real consumption varies with load, terrain, speed, temperature and driving style. Do not treat it as your only margin of safety.
• Bus routes are mirrored from the operator. Some now carry departure times the operator has given us. Those times are what we were told, not a promise we can keep for them: a service may leave early, run late, be full, or not run at all. Check with the operator before you rely on catching the last one.
• Distances shown in lists are straight-line distances, not road distances, and are rounded.

You remain responsible for your own journey. Check conditions before you travel, and carry enough charge or fuel to reach an alternative you know.

Do not operate the Service while driving or riding. Set your route before you move, or ask a passenger to do it.

Obey road signs, traffic law and the instructions of the authorities. Where they differ from what the Service shows, they take precedence.

The Service uses your device's location to centre the map on you, to show where you are, and to plan journeys from where you stand.

You control this in your device settings and may refuse or withdraw it at any time. The rest of the Service continues to work without it.

To answer a request, the Service sends us what is needed to answer it:

• what you type into search;
• the coordinates of the points you route between, when you ask for directions, a trip plan, or the address of a point;
• the start and destination of a journey, when you ask for a Loca fare estimate. These are passed to Loca's booking system to price the trip.

Our servers keep ordinary technical logs of requests, for operating and securing the Service.

The following stays on your device and is not sent to us:

• your search history and the places you have opened;
• the counts used to bring places you have chosen before to the top of your results;
• the maps you have downloaded.

You can clear your search history in the app. Removing the app removes all of it.

We do not require an account and we do not build an advertising profile of you.

Where the Service shows a fare for a Loca ride, that figure is an estimate produced by Loca's booking system for the journey as described.

The price you pay is the one confirmed in the Loca app when you book, and the ride itself is governed by Loca's own terms of service, not by these.

Maps you download are stored on your device and use its storage.

They are a copy of the map as it was when you downloaded it and will not include later changes until you download that region again.

Search, directions, trip planning and fare estimates need a network connection and do not work offline.

• reverse engineer, decompile or tamper with the Service, except so far as the law allows despite this restriction;
• use the Service for any unlawful purpose, or to locate or follow another person without their knowledge.

Nothing in these terms transfers any right in them to you. You may use the Service for your own journeys, personal or business, and you may share links to places and routes.

The Service also uses open source software and fonts. Their licences and notices are listed in the app under Profile › Licences, and on the website under Licences. Those licences govern those components.

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, the Service — including a journey that took longer than shown, a charging station that was unavailable, a bus that did not run, a route unsuitable for your vehicle, or a vehicle that ran out of charge or fuel.

Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.

These terms are governed by the law of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, and disputes are subject to the courts of Lao PDR.

These terms are published in Lao and in English. Where the two differ, the Lao version governs.
